Why the academy exists

Teaching the Indian knowledge systems from their texts

Courses that teach each discipline from the texts that state it — every tradition named, every source given, every calculation shown.

Pillar 01

Texts first

Each course is taught from its primary texts, in translation with the Sanskrit for key verses. Every reading list names the edition it uses, and whether that edition is reproduced or only cited.

Pillar 02

Argument, not assertion

The tradition settles a question by argument: the opposing view stated fairly, tested, then answered. The courses teach a reader to weigh every rule against its source the same way, and to tell a traditional reading from a claim.

Pillar 03

From texts to tools

What the texts teach should be usable. The Vāstu rules already run as the engine behind the Vāstu course's worked examples; carrying other disciplines the same way is the work ahead.

From the texts to working tools

The aim is to carry what the texts teach into tools that work, with the rule set out plainly and every claim held to what the text says. The Vāstu engine is the first, and the homepage shows where each piece of this work stands. Before any other text becomes a product, it has to answer four questions.

From texts to tools

Four questions before a text becomes a product

Set each scale to where an idea stands to see which question it answers least well — that is where the work starts.

1 / 5

Mentioned only in passing, in later or folk sources.

1 / 5

Nothing yet: it has only been read.

1 / 5

Not yet known, or it uses something the law restricts.

1 / 5

It depends on wild-harvested material that is under pressure.

Answered least well

How exactly does the text state it?

What a course here is, and what it is not

Degrees and credit. Ojas Academy awards no degree or diploma and has no university partnership, so no course here carries academic credit.

Traditional titles. Titles such as Vidvān and Śāstrī are conferred by the institutions and teachers of a tradition. The academy confers none.

Licences. No course is a licence to practise. No statute licenses a Vāstu consultant, and “architect” is a protected title under the Architects Act 1972.

Editions and rights. Reading lists say which editions are in the public domain and reproduced, and which are in copyright and only cited.
